Add elements

Add library elements, upload your own assets, search by category, place items on an artboard, and replace selected elements.

Browse a library of shapes and illustrations, upload your own graphics, swap any element for something new, or remove one entirely, all without leaving your artboard.

Add an element from the library

  1. Open the editor, or start a new project.

  2. Click Illustrations in the left toolbar to open the panel.

  3. Click an element to add it to your artboard, or drag and drop it into place.

  4. Use the category tabs (All, Shapes, Illustrative, Abstract, or Ornaments) to browse, or type into the search bar to find something specific.

Upload your own elements

  1. Click Uploads in the left toolbar to open the panel.

  2. Click Upload Files, or drag and drop a file from your computer onto the artboard.

  3. Your upload is saved to your Uploads library, so it's available across every project. Supported formats: SVG, PNG, and JPEG.

Replace an element or image

  1. Select the element or image you want to swap out on your artboard.

  2. Open a content panel, Illustrations, Photos, Textures, or another, from the left toolbar.

  3. Hover over the item you want instead and click Replace. It swaps into the same spot on your artboard.

Delete an element

  1. Select the element or elements you want to remove.

  2. Press Backspace, or right-click and choose Delete from the right-click menu.

See Canvas essentials for more on selecting and working with elements on your artboard.

Expected outcome

Your new element appears on the artboard selected and ready to move, resize, or recolor. When you replace an existing element or image, the new one takes over its position and size automatically, so there's no manual resizing to do afterward. When you delete an element, it disappears from the artboard right away.

Troubleshooting

My uploaded file won't add to the panel

Check that it's an SVG, PNG, or JPEG. Other formats aren't supported yet, so convert the file first if it's something else.

Common questions

Can I change the color of an element after adding it?

Yes, vector illustrations. Select it and use the right panel's color controls, or see Change element colors for the full rundown.

What happens to the old element when I replace it?

It's removed from the artboard and replaced entirely. If you want to keep both, duplicate the original before replacing it.

Can I get a deleted element back?

Yes, right after deleting it. Press Cmd+Z (Mac) or Ctrl+Z (Windows) to undo the delete. If it's been a while, see Use version history to restore an earlier version of your project instead.
