Change element colors
Recolor selected elements, groups, or an entire project with swatches, HEX values, document palette colors, and the eyedropper.
Recolor any illustration, artboard, or your whole project using color swatches, HEX codes, the eyedropper, ready-made color palettes, or your Brand's saved colors. The steps are the same no matter what you're recoloring, only the name of the color section in the right panel changes based on what you've selected.
Recolor your selection
Select a vectorized illustration and the right panel shows Illustration Colors.
Select an artboard and the right panel shows Selection Colors, listing every color used by the elements placed on it.
Deselect everything and the right panel shows Project Colors, listing every color used anywhere in your project.
Make your selection (or deselect everything). The right panel opens automatically, showing the matching panel above.
You'll see a swatch for each color found in that panel. Only the first three colors show by default, click See all [number] colors to view the rest.
Click a swatch to open the color window.
Choose an exact or existing color
In the color window, pick Solid, Linear, or Radial at the top, then drag the color picker to the shade you want, or enter a code in the HEX box.
Drag the opacity slider below the hue bar to adjust how see-through the color is. The percentage box next to the HEX field updates to match.
Apply a ready-made color palette
Instead of recoloring one swatch at a time, you can restyle a whole selection in one click. This works the same way whether you've selected an illustration, an entire artboard, or nothing (recoloring your whole project).
Make your selection.
Click Browse Color Palettes.
Under Current Palette, you'll see the colors currently used in your selection.
Scroll through More Palettes and click one to recolor everything in your selection at once.
Apply a color from your Brand
If you've set up a Brand, its colors are available right from the color window.
In the color window, click the Brand tab.
If you have more than one Brand, pick which one from the dropdown.
Click a color to apply it to your selection.
See Set up and apply your Brand if you haven't created one yet.
Expected outcome
Your selection, whether that's an illustration, an artboard, or your whole project, updates to the new color immediately. Opacity and HEX values apply as soon as you set them, and applying a palette recolors every matching swatch in your selection at once, so there's no separate save step.
Troubleshooting
I don't see a color swatch when I select an element
You most likely selected a raster image. Illustration Colors only appears for a vectorized image, so a raster image won't show any color swatches here. See Use Image Vectorizer to vectorize it first.
Common questions
Why don't I see my Brand colors in the color window?
You need a Brand set up first. See Set up and apply your Brand, then its colors show up under the Brand tab automatically.
Does recoloring an element affect designs I've already exported?
No. Color changes only update your current, unexported design. Files you've already downloaded or shared keep the colors they had at export.
