Glyphs panel
Open the Glyphs panel while editing text, search for alternate characters, and insert decorative font glyphs into your design.
The Glyphs panel gives you access to every alternate character a font includes, like swashes, ligatures, and stylistic variants, right from your text. Use it whenever a font's default letterform isn't quite the one you want.
Open the Glyphs panel
Select your text.
In the right panel's Text Style section, click the A icon.
The panel that opens is named after your font (for example, Caramel Glyphs), so you always know whose character set you're browsing.
Find and add a glyph
Use the search bar to look for the character you want, or browse the grid.
Drag the Size slider to make the glyph previews bigger or smaller.
Click a glyph to add it to your text.
If you highlight a character first, the glyph replaces it. If you just place your cursor, the glyph is inserted there instead. Either way, the panel stays open afterward, so you can keep clicking to add more without reopening it.
Expected outcome
The glyph you clicked appears in your text, styled in the same font, size, and color as the rest of the word, either replacing the character you highlighted or inserted at your cursor.
Troubleshooting
I don't see any alternates for my character.
Not every font includes decorative glyphs. Try a different typeface, since many display and script fonts include swashes, ligatures, or stylistic sets, while more basic fonts don't.
My search isn't finding anything.
The Glyphs panel only shows characters that exist in the selected font. Switch fonts and search again if you're looking for a specific character or style.
Common questions
What's a glyph?
A glyph is any character design a font includes for a letter, from its default look to alternates like swashes, ligatures, and stylistic variants.
How do I know if a font has extra glyphs?
Open the Glyphs panel while that font is selected, then search for the character you want. If the font includes alternates, they show up in the results.
