Real time collaboration
Invite teammates to a project, set edit or view permissions, see live presence, leave comments, and collaborate on one canvas.
Invite people to a project by email or link, work on the same design together in real time, leave comments, and control who can view or edit it as you go. Use this when you want a teammate or client working alongside you, not just receiving a copy, for that, see Share your design.
Open the Share project panel
Open the project you want to collaborate on.
Click Share in the top-right corner, next to the Export button.
The Share project panel opens with two tabs, Link and Invite, with Link shown first.
Set who can access the link
Use the access-level dropdown to choose one of three options: "Anyone with a link can view," "Anyone with a link can edit," or "Only invited users can access."
If you loosen access from "Only invited users can access" to either link option, a "Change project access settings" dialog asks you to confirm. Click "Allow anyone with the link to view" to confirm, or "Keep private" to cancel.
Click Copy link to copy the project link to your clipboard. A toast confirms with "Project link copied" or "Project permissions changed."
Invite people by email
Click the Invite tab in the Share project panel.
Type an email address. The field suggests saved contacts as you type, or choose "Manage Addresses" to pick from a list.
Use the dropdown next to the field to set their access as "Can view" or "Can edit," then click Invite.
The panel also lists who already has access: you as Owner, anyone on your workspace (listed as "Anyone at [your workspace]," "Can access"), and anyone you've invited, marked "Pending" until they accept.
Work together on the same canvas
Once someone has access, whether by invite or link, their edits appear on your canvas immediately, no refreshing needed. Each collaborator's avatar shows up next to your own avatar in the top-right corner while they're active in the project, so you always know who's working alongside you.
Request or approve edit access
If someone opens a view-only link, they'll see a blue "You are in a view-only mode" banner with a "Request edit access" button.
The person viewing clicks Request edit access.
You, as the project owner, see a prompt naming who's requesting for access, with Approve and Deny buttons.
Click Approve to give them edit access, or Deny to keep them in view-only mode. Denying shows them a "Request denied" toast; approving switches their view instantly into the full editor.
Leave comments
Select the Comment tool (the speech-bubble icon in the bottom toolbar), or press C to enter comment mode.
Click anywhere on the design to drop a pin and open a text box.
Type your note and click the arrow button to post it.
Clicking the speech bubble icon opens the Comments panel on the right, where every thread in the project is listed. Comments sync in real time, so anyone else in the project sees your pin and thread right away. Click an existing pin, or its entry in the Comments panel, to open the thread and reply. Use the filter icon at the top of the Comments panel to narrow the list, or the X to close it.
Manage access afterward
How you remove or change someone's access depends on how they got it.
If they're using a shared link, go back to the Link tab and lower the access level. Switching from "Anyone with a link can edit" to "Anyone with a link can view" drops anyone using that link to view-only, they'll see the "You are in a view-only mode" banner and can request edit access again if they need it. Switching to "Only invited users can access" cuts the link off entirely, so anyone who has access through it loses it.
If you invited them by email, go to the Invite tab instead, where you'll see everyone with access. Click the dropdown next to a person's name to change their access between Can view and Can edit, or select Remove to take away their access entirely.
Expected outcome
When someone else is working with you, you'll see their avatar next to yours and their edits appear as they make them, with no need to refresh.
Troubleshooting
I'm stuck in view-only mode and can't edit.
This usually means either the project link is set to "Anyone with a link can view," or your invite role is "Can view." If you're using a link, click Request edit access and wait for the owner to approve. If you were invited by email, ask the owner to change your role to "Can edit" in the Invite tab.
I invited someone, but they still can't get into the project.
Check that the invite still says "Pending," they need to accept it before they can access the project, and double-check the email address is spelled correctly.
I removed someone, but they can still open the project.
Removing someone from the Invite tab only revokes their individual invite. If they also have the shareable link and it's not set to "Only invited users can access," they can still get in that way. Switch the Link tab's access level too if you want to fully lock them out.
Common questions
What's the difference between this and Share your design?
This article covers giving someone live access to your actual project, editing or viewing it with you in real time. Sending a one-off copy, posting to social media, or publishing to the community are different flows, covered in Share your design.
What's the difference between "Can view" on the Invite tab and "Anyone with a link can view" on the Link tab?
The Invite tab controls access for a specific person you named by email. The Link tab controls access for anyone who has the shareable link, regardless of who they are.
Can someone with view-only access still leave comments?
Yes. Viewing includes commenting, only editing the design itself is restricted.
How do I see who's currently working in the project with me?
Their avatar appears next to yours in the top-right corner while they're active.
