Add text

Add headlines, paragraph text, or predefined text layouts to an artboard, then ungroup layouts when you need individual edits.

Add a headline, a paragraph, a ready-made text layout, or draw your own text box straight onto the artboard, whichever fits your design.

Add a headline or paragraph

  1. Open the editor, or start a new project.

  2. Click Text in the left toolbar to open the panel.

  3. Click Add Headline for a single bold line, or Add Paragraph for multiple lines of body text.

Add a ready-made text layout

  1. In the Text panel, scroll through the categories, such as Vintage, Titles, Badges, and Gradients.

  2. Click Show All on a category to see everything it offers, or scroll its row directly.

  3. Click a layout to add it to your artboard, or drag it into place.

Draw your own text box

  1. Click the text tool in the bottom toolbar, or press T.

  2. Click once on the artboard to drop in a small text box, or click and drag to draw one at a custom size.

  3. Start typing right away, the box is already in edit mode. It picks up the font and style you used last, so it's ready to match the rest of your design.

Once you're done typing, the tool switches back to the selection arrow automatically, so you can reposition your new text right away.

Expected outcome

New text lands on the artboard selected and ready to move, resize, or style. A preset layout arrives as a group; a text box you draw yourself is ready to type into immediately.

Common questions

What's the difference between Add Headline and the text tool?

Add Headline drops in ready-made text styled and sized for a headline. The text tool draws an empty box in whatever font and style you used last, so you're starting from a blank slate rather than a preset look.

Can I edit one piece of a preset layout on its own?

Yes. Select the layout, click Ungroup in the contextual toolbar, then select and edit the individual piece you want to change.

How do I change the font, size, or color of my text?

See Edit and style text for the full rundown of text styling controls.
