Use the mockup generator

Add mockups to artboards, arrange designs inside placeholders, update linked mockups, export variations, and troubleshoot fit issues.

The mockup generator lets you preview your designs on real-world products (apparel, packaging, devices, and more) directly on your canvas. Add one or multiple mockups to any artboard, fine-tune positioning and background color, and export everything at once.

Before you start

Open a project with at least one artboard, and make sure your design is already on the artboard you want to add a mockup to. Premium mockups are available on the Pro, Expert, and Max plans only.

Add your first mockup

  1. Select an artboard on the canvas.

  2. Open the mockup library: click Mockups in the left toolbar, select Mockup from the contextual toolbar, or click Mockup under Tools in the right panel.

  3. Browse the library and click a mockup to add it. It's placed on your canvas, linked to the selected artboard.

Adjust your design inside the mockup

  1. Select the mockup on the canvas to enter edit mode.

  2. Drag to reposition your design within the frame, or use the corner handles to scale it.

  3. Select the mockup and open Mockup Color to set the product's own color, separate from your design.

Mockup Color only changes the product itself. It never changes your design's artwork, so if your design or its artboard has its own background, you may still see a colored patch behind your design. See the troubleshooting section below to fix that.

Add multiple mockups to one artboard

Attach as many mockups as you need to a single artboard, which is useful for building a full asset set or campaign layouts in one place. Each mockup keeps its own positioning and settings independently, and when you update your artboard design, every attached mockup refreshes in real time.

  1. Select the same artboard.

  2. Open the mockup library and choose another mockup.

  3. Repeat for as many mockups as you need.

Export your mockups

A mockup exports the same way as anything else on your canvas. Select it and use Quick Export from the contextual toolbar for a single mockup, or open the full Export panel to export several mockups or artboards at once. See Export your design for the full walkthrough of formats and settings.

Replace a mockup placeholder

If you open the mockup library without selecting an artboard first, the mockup is inserted with a placeholder instead of being linked to your design.

To fix this:

  1. Select the placeholder on the canvas and delete it.

  2. Drag your design onto the empty artboard to preview it in context.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the Mockup button

Make sure an artboard is selected. The Mockup button in the contextual toolbar and Tools panel only appears when an artboard is active. You can also open the mockup library from the left panel at any time, but adding a mockup without an artboard selected inserts a placeholder instead.

My design doesn't fit the mockup

Select the mockup to enter edit mode, then drag to reposition it or use the corner handles to resize your design within the frame.

Why is there a colored patch behind my design in the mockup?

This happens for one of two reasons, so check both.

If your artboard has a solid color, that color shows through as a patch behind your design, no matter what you set Mockup Color to. Fix this by selecting the artboard and clicking the minus sign next to Color to make it transparent, or by selecting the mockup and turning on Match Artboard Color to sync the two automatically.

If your design itself has a solid background built into its artwork, that background always prints as is. Mockup Color and your artboard's color can't override it, so you'll need to remove or make that background transparent inside your design first.

Common questions

Can I use unlimited mockups on an artboard?

Yes. There's no limit to how many mockups you can attach to a single artboard.

Do I need a separate mockup mode?

No. Everything happens right on the canvas, so there's no separate mode or workspace to switch into.

Does this work like Kittl Flows?

Yes. The interaction model is the same, so it feels familiar from the start: select an artboard, add a Mockup board from the contextual toolbar, and it connects to your design the same way an AI Image board or AI Video board would.
